Testing the Impact of a Geometric Curvature Variable on the Accuracy of Econometric Forecasting Models

Classical financial forecasting models often fail to capture the complex, nonlinear dynamics of the stock market. This study demonstrates that incorporating a single variable to represent the 'geometric curvature' of a time series dramatically improves the accuracy of standard econometric forecasts. Our findings highlight that geometric properties are a significant predictive factor, opening new avenues for more powerful financial modeling.

A model for angle evolution in conical piles formed using the fixed funnel method

A model for angle evolution in conical piles formed using the fixed funnel method

When granular materials are poured onto a surface, they form conical piles whose slopes increase before reaching a stable angle of repose. We found that this angle evolution follows a previously unrecognized two-phase exponential growth pattern that is conserved across granular materials with diverse particle properties. The parameters of this model correlate with particle friction and are influenced by deposition conditions, providing a quantitative framework for describing pile formation.

This manuscript describes a new method of on-the-go passwords using typing characteristics. The authors developed a keyboard and keystroke recording setup and tested it with 30 participants. The results indicated the five chosen parameters are distinct across participants yet consistent across time for each participant, making it a plausible candidate for a behavior-based password system.

This study shows the efficacy of leveraging transfer learning, specifically from residual networks, to detect CVDs and possible signs of CVDs. The findings indicate that leveraging transfer learning from residual networks alongside medical professionals is a highly promising approach for CVD detection and diagnosis, warranting further investigation.

The effects of a high-sucrose diet on the survival of Drosophila melanogaster from a bacterial infection

The effects of a high-sucrose diet on the survival of Drosophila melanogaster from a bacterial infection

Excess sucrose consumption has been associated with several health problems, including inflammation and potential negative effects on immune function. However, the exact relationship between sucrose intake and immunity remains unclear, especially during bacterial infections. This study examined how sucrose intake affected the survival of fruit flies following oral infection with the bacterial pathogen Serratia marcescens.
