Here, recognizing the potential harmful effects of algal blooms, the authors used satellite images to detect algal blooms in water bodies in Wyoming based on their reflectance of near infrared light. They found that remote monitoring in this way may provide a useful tool in providing early warning and advisories to people who may live in close proximity.

Mitigation of ultraviolet solar radiation involving calcite

Mitigation of ultraviolet solar radiation involving calcite

This study tested whether calcite, a safe and naturally occurring mineral, can block ultraviolet (UV) radiation when used in solar geoengineering. Students launched a high‑altitude balloon carrying UV sensors and calcite‑coated sheets to measure how much UV light passed through different calcite concentrations. Their results showed that calcite significantly reduces UV transmission, suggesting it may be a promising material for future stratospheric aerosol injection to help mitigate climate change.

Dietary calcium intake and lead body burden in U.S. adolescents

Dietary calcium intake and lead body burden in U.S. adolescents

We investigated whether dietary calcium intake affects how adolescents handle lead internally. Using paired blood and urinary lead data, we assessed whether calcium status is associated with differences in lead clearance. The results point to subgroups of adolescents—particularly those with lower calcium intake—who may carry a higher internal lead burden than their blood levels alone would suggest.

Presence of Vegetation in Relation to Slope in Yosemite Valley, California

Presence of Vegetation in Relation to Slope in Yosemite Valley, California

This study examined the relationship between the slope of a terrain and vegetation, measured by the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI). It was hypothesized that lower slope ranges would be more supportive of vegetation growth than higher slope ranges. Analysis showed that no slope (even as extreme as 85–90°) prohibits the growth of vegetation completely; even the steepest slopes examined contain plant life. Knowing that steep slopes can still support plant life, agriculturalists can begin to explore and start planting additional crops and plants at these extreme slopes.

A cross-cultural analysis of consumer behavior and payment preferences: Insights from India and the United Arab Emirates

A cross-cultural analysis of consumer behavior and payment preferences: Insights from India and the United Arab Emirates

Consumers in India and the United Arab Emirates live in very different economic and cultural environments, and this study set out to measure how that shapes the way they shop and pay. Surveying 50 people in each country, they found that Indian consumers were more price-sensitive and favored cash, while UAE consumers prioritized convenience, gravitating toward credit cards, mobile wallets, and online shopping. The results offer practical insight for retailers, marketers, and policymakers working across these two fast-growing but culturally distinct markets.
